One Sentence Wednesday: The Vagenda

One Sentence Wednesdays is a weekly meme hosted by Rebeca at Books and Messy Buns. One Sentence Wednesday

Here’s the rules:

  • Pick up the book you’re currently reading (or read last)
  • Think about what it made you feel so far
  • Describe it in one sentence
  • Share your sentence, book title and author with the book community

My book of the week is The Vagenda: A Zero Tolerance Guide to the Media by Holly Baxter and Lucy Cosslett.  Based on the blog of the same name, it looks at media and the skewed way it portrays women.  Here’s my one sentence to sum up my feelings of the book so far:

I never realised just how much I was being negatively influenced by women’s magazines until I started reading this book.

Vagenda

This book was recommended to me by The Geek Undergraduate, and has been very eye-opening so far.  I’m definitely going to be more cautious of women’s magazines in the future, as I can certainly see how they use techniques to make readers insecure!
