Great Songs I Have Discovered This Year (And How To Support Your Favourite Bands During Lockdown!)

Writing my If We Were Having Coffee… post made me realise that I have heard some really good music this year (and last) that is really worth sharing; and now is probably the most important time to be putting these tracks out there.

Sadly, all the shows I had planned for 2020 have been either rescheduled for 2021, or just cancelled completely, and of course that must be seriously impacting bands and crews.  It makes me really feel for those who have had their tours interrupted, and are having to try to connect with fans digitally to keep their income coming in.  I’ve bought a couple of t-shirts to show support, and I know there are a number of fundraisers around that are raising money for bands, their families, and their crew.

So, here’s some songs I’ve been listening to a lot at the moment.  If you enjoy any of them, consider supporting the bands during these difficult times! (Warning: some of the videos can be a bit gory, such is the rock/metal genre…)

Ice Nine Kills – IT Is The End

Fire From The Gods – Right Now

A Day to Remember – Mindreader

Spiritbox – Blessed Be

Falling in Reverse – Losing my Life

Saviour – Never Sleep

Ghost – Dance Macabre

I Prevail – Breaking Down

Asking Alexandria – Alone in a Room

Volbeat – The Gates of Babylon

If you feel like you want to get involved, it is super easy to stay in touch with bands at the moment; there is plenty of online content by musicians on YouTube and Facebook.

So far I’ve attended a virtual Dropkick Murphy’s show for St Patrick’s Day, I watched the Fearless at Home event (raising money for music crews), and I plan on tuning in to the Download TV event this weekend too (my t-shirt should be arriving any day now for that!).  Many of these online shows have the option to donate, or offer merchandise for the bands, or with a portion going to charity.

What music have you been enjoying lately?
